What's Your Theme Song?
π Bid Me Come Closer: Notes From the Journey
I've always loved movie soundtracks. Not because they're pretty background music. Because they help tell a story.
Think about movies like The Patriot. Sometimes the music feels like a battle cry! A reminder of what's at stake and a call to keep moving forward when the fight seems impossible.
Then there's Rocky. Remember those training scenes? There was no better music than when Rocky started preparing for the fight.
This season of my life has both. Some days feel like a battle. Other days feel like training. Either way, this season has a soundtrack. Actually, a revolving soundtrack.
Some days I need encouragement.
Some days I need a battle cry.
Some days I need to declare victory before I can see it.
Some days praise wells up from somewhere deep inside me because I'm simply grateful to be alive.
And some days I need the wisdom of the Holy Spirit to guide decisions I never expected to make.
That's why I've started collecting the songs carrying me through this season into a playlist called:
π΅ Theme Songs for the Journey
Here are a few of the songs currently on repeat.
Listen on:
π§ Spotify Playlist
π΅ No Fear - John Reddick and We the Kingdom
This is my battle cry song. A heart failure diagnosis comes with a lot of opportunities to be afraid.
Doctor's appointments.
Tests.
Medications.
Lifestyle changes.
Questions.
Waiting.
But when fear starts talking louder than faith, this song reminds me who God is. It reminds me that God has not changed simply because my circumstances have. And because He is with me, fear doesn't get the final word.
π΅ I Believe You - Megan Woods
There are a lot of things I don't know about this journey. I don't know what tomorrow holds. I don't know how every piece of the story will unfold. I don't know what God is doing behind the scenes.
But I do know who He is.
This song reminds me that faith isn't having all the answers. Faith is choosing to believe God when the answers haven't arrived yet. When uncertainty starts demanding certainty, this song helps me remember that God's promises are still true.
Even when I can't see the outcome.
I believe Him.
π΅ Rescue Me - We the Kingdom
This is one of my surrender songs. Because no matter how hard I try, there are parts of this journey I simply cannot control.
I can take the medicine.
I can make the lifestyle changes.
I can follow the treatment plan.
I can do my part, but there comes a point where I have to place the rest in God's hands. This song reminds me that needing rescue is not weakness. It's honesty. It's recognizing that I was never meant to carry every burden by myself.
When the weight of the unknown feels heavy, this song helps me remember that God is still my refuge, my strength, and my rescuer.
And sometimes the most powerful prayer we can pray is simply:
"Lord, I need You."
π΅ God I'm Still Counting My Blessings - Seph Schlueter
This is one of my gratitude songs. Because not every day in this journey is about fighting. Some days I find myself overwhelmed by God's goodness. Not because everything is perfect. Not because all my questions have been answered. But because I can still see His hand at work.
A loving husband.
Two amazing daughters.
Family.
Friends.
Doctors.
Strength and grace for today.
One more sunrise.
One more opportunity to be about the Father's business.
This song reminds me that even in difficult seasons, there is still so much to be thankful for. And sometimes the greatest act of faith is simply stopping long enough to count the blessings God has already given.
π΅ Stay - Zahriya Zachary
This is one of my listening songs because not every moment in this journey requires action. Sometimes the greatest challenge is simply staying.
Staying close to Jesus.
Staying in the Word.
Staying connected to the Holy Spirit.
There are a lot of decisions in this season.
Doctor's appointments.
Lifestyle changes.
Questions about the future.
And more than anything, I need wisdom. I need guidance. I need to hear His voice above all the other voices competing for my attention. This song reminds me that I don't have to have everything figured out today. I just have to stay close enough to hear Him.
And that's where I want to be.
So let me ask you:
What's your theme song?
If this season of your life had a soundtrack, what song would be on it? I'd love to hear it. Maybe we'll build the next playlist together.
Before I go, let me leave you with a little homework.
In the last blog we talked about Step 1:
❤️ Make the Decision.
Do you want to be well?
Today's Step 2 is:
π΅ Find Your Theme Song.
Find the songs that strengthen your faith.
Find the songs that remind you who God is.
Find the songs that become your battle cry.
Build a playlist.
Feed your spirit.
And then come back for Step 3.
Can I Find a Purpose in This?
How can God use this season for something good?
How can He turn pain into purpose?
We'll tackle that next time.
Until then...
What's your theme song?
He is still sustaining us.
