The Immortal Jellyfish: A Spiritual Awakening

Image
There is a fascinating creature in the ocean known as Turritopsis dohrnii , (pronounced  tur-ih-TOP-sis DOR-nee-eye)  often called the immortal jellyfish . Unlike most living things that move only forward through life—from youth to age—this jellyfish can, under stress or injury, revert back to an earlier stage of life and begin again. What an incredible picture of spiritual truth. While people cannot physically reverse aging, through Jesus Christ we are offered something even greater: spiritual rebirth, renewal, and transformation. God is the only One who can take what feels old, broken, wounded, or worn out and make it new again. Born Again: Our First Spiritual Awakening The greatest renewal begins the moment we come to Christ. Jesus told Nicodemus that no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again . This new birth is not natural—it is spiritual. It is the miracle of God giving new life to the soul. When we surrender to Jesus: old guilt is washed away...

The Upwelling: Deep Calls to Deep

Image
What if the wind I thought was against me…is the very thing God is using to draw the deep out of me? Lately, the wind has felt strong. Not the kind you see coming, but the kind you feel when everything seems unsettled at once. And somewhere in the middle of it…I read about something in the ocean called upwelling. Understanding it brought an indescribable calm within me. When wind blows across the ocean’s surface, it doesn’t just create waves.  It moves water.  The surface is pushed aside,  and in its place, deeper water rises. Cold. Nutrient-rich. Life-giving. These deep waters carry what the surface has been lacking—formed over time, hidden far beneath what can be seen. What looks like disruption on the surface is actually the beginning of life beneath it. And I’m starting to see… the wind is not an interruption— it is an invitation. “Deep calls to deep…” — Psalm 42:7 There’s a spiritual upwelling that only happens when the wind begi...

The Sun Always Rises

Since the start of creation, we are ever moving in a perpetual motion or cycle of “darkness to light.” In Genesis 1, the earth began in darkness, but then there was light. This progression will continue until we as believers are no longer walking in darkness but only in light. Proverbs 4:18 states “But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, that shines ever brighter unto the perfect day.” Oh, what a glorious day! In the beginning, God created our beautiful earth from deep waters and infinite darkness. Light was created at His command, and the separation of light and darkness in the earth began. “And God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day.” (Genesis 1:5) So, in the beginning, the days on earth began evening to daytime, from darkness to light. This is true when we first come to know the Lord as Savior. Our transformation signifies a new day! The darkness is swallowed by the Light. Lamentations 3:2...

Freefall

Stepping Out in Faith: Embracing the Journey of Obedience   Stepping out in faith when God nudges you should feel like the boldest and most assured step you will ever take, right? So, why does obedience sometimes feel like a freefall? A plunge, even? The Weight of Obedience  Perhaps because: The outcome is not yet known. The skepticism feels intrusive. The change is uncomfortable. The failure would be humiliating. Obedience is defined as “submission to another authority” and being “in accordance with,” a phrase which itself means acting “in a manner conforming with.” The Essence of Obedience Obedience is: Letting go of control. Letting go of pride. Letting go of constraints. Letting go of misconceptions. Letting go of expectations. Obedience is letting go with unrestrained motion. It is the commitment to move forward on the path to which God is calling you. It is, nevertheless, Thy will be done—conforming, not to the world or their opinions, but to Jesus. Obedience is the...

Don’t Throw Seashells! 🐚

Few creatures in the ocean are as mysterious and fascinating as the octopus. With its eight flexible arms, remarkable intelligence, and ability to transform its appearance in an instant, the octopus is a true master of disguise and survival. Whether hiding in plain sight or darting through rocky crevices, this extraordinary animal never fails to captivate those who encounter it. Recently, I read a remarkable article about a research team led by Peter Godfrey-Smith from the University of Sydney who discovered that octopuses intentionally throw seashells, rocks, and silt. The published findings in 2022 were based on footage from "Octopolis" in Jervis Bay, Australia. The footage documented female octopuses hurling the undersea objects at other octopuses. While exploring this information, I also found reports where researchers witnessed octopuses slapping innocent fish as they swam by. This bad behavior did not appear to be related to hunting but rather seemed to result from anno...
