The Sun Always Rises
Since the start of creation, we are ever moving in a
perpetual motion or cycle of “darkness to light.” In Genesis 1, the earth began
in darkness, but then there was light. This progression will continue until we as
believers are no longer walking in darkness but only in light. Proverbs 4:18
states “But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, that shines
ever brighter unto the perfect day.” Oh, what a glorious day!
In the beginning, God created our beautiful earth from deep
waters and infinite darkness. Light was created at His command, and the
separation of light and darkness in the earth began. “And God called the light
Day, and the darkness He called Night. And there was evening and there was
morning, one day.” (Genesis 1:5) So, in the beginning, the days on earth began
evening to daytime, from darkness to light.
This is true when we first come to know the Lord as Savior. Our
transformation signifies a new day! The darkness is swallowed by the Light. Lamentations
3:22, 23 tells us, “His mercies never come to an end; they are new every
morning!” A clean slate, a new day with no mistakes in it! I often refer to
this as the honeymoon period in our courtship with the Lord. It is a new high!
You feel light and airy, full of faith, and heaven bound!
Then, as follows the path of creation, the work begins. Just
as a fisherman cleans his catch, so does our heavenly Father. The process of
scaling and filleting can feel like a very lonely night season, but in the
eponymous book of 1 Peter, the disciple tells us there is a “family of
believers throughout the world…undergoing the same kind of suffering.” He goes
on to say that after you have suffered a little while, “the God of all
grace, who has called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself restore, confirm,
strengthen, and establish you" (1 Peter 5:9,10). As He cuts off those old scaly
things that carry a stench, we become purposeful in the body of Christ. We can
open up ourselves for His service.
Notice in Genesis 1:4 that God separated the darkness from the light. He does this separation in us, too. “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light.” (Isaiah 9:2) Have you noticed that the relationships you developed in the darkness now cannot stand in the light or the things you once did while living in darkness do not feel the same when abiding in the light?
2 Peter 1:5-11
“For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.”
Finally, I believe with every trial, with every decision,
with every unanswered prayer, we are still cycling in the same pattern. We
begin in a cloak of darkness until we receive clarity, purpose, or direction.
Jesus sheds light on the situation by illuminating His word, He moves obstacles
from your path or redirects you, or He performs miracles before your eyes! In
this way, we are constantly and consistently transformed from darkness to
light.
Whether it is freedom from former sins,
Clear direction and clarity in our purpose or the way we
should go,
Or growing in the knowledge of Him,
Without fail, every single day, the Son rises.
2 Corinthians 3:18:
“And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.”
I want to walk on the water.
