I Have Hidden Your Word

Twice in the night I heard Him speak:
“Hide My Word in your heart so that when these things come up that is what comes out of your mouth.”
The words were soft, but the weight of them pierced my spirit like the blast of a trumpet. I could not wait to get out of bed that morning and dig into the scriptures because I knew I was stepping into a treasure hunt. Psalm 119 came alive:
“I seek You with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden Your Word in my heart that I might not sin against You. Praise be to You, Lord; teach me Your decrees. With my lips, I recount all the laws that come from Your mouth.” (NIV)
The author says, “I seek. I have hidden. I recount.”
Seek – to pursue, to yearn for, to study...to not stop until you find Him
"I seek."
Not I sought yesterday.
Not I will seek tomorrow.
But right now. Continually.
This is a present pursuit. A daily moment-by-moment reaching for Him.
All – Everything, the whole of your heart
Hidden – Stored, protected, treasured
Decrees – Clear instruction
With my lips I recount – I proclaim
Laws – What is right
Seek Me with your whole heart. Treasure my Word and guard it closely—do not allow anything or anyone to take it from you—so that you may boldly and clearly speak what is right.
The phrase “that I might not sin against You” appears in the same passage as a vow to clearly proclaim what is right. So, when you put it all together the instruction of the Father is unmistakable:
"Hide My Word in your heart so you do not sin against Me...with your mouth!"
The psalm continues:
“You are my hiding place”
“...my lips shall pour forth praise.”
“Teach me good judgment, wise and right discernment, and knowledge, for I have believed.” (vs. 66)
This psalm isn't as much about fitting the Word into your daily life, it is the evidence of a life already filled with it.
It isn't instruction.
It is overflow that comes from:
- consuming the Word
- holding on to it
- protecting it
...until it springs forth from within you.
Throughout the psalm, you see a pattern. A deep, relentless hunger for God. The Amplified translation tells us we are blessed when we CRAVE Him.
Proclaim these words today!
- I rejoice, delight, meditate
- Open my eyes, make me understand, teach me
- I cleave, long for, my soul languishes, my heart is breaking with longing
- Revive me, incline my heart, make me go in the path
Scripture tells us that we are truly blessed when we seek God with a whole heart. Because when we truly seek Him, we begin to know Him, we begin to reflect Him. Our character becomes His character. Oh, that I may know Him!
Today, I seek You, Father.
Today, I hide Your Word in my heart.
Today, I PROCLAIM your faithfulness!
Because what I store within...
is what will come out when it matters most.
Today, I want to walk on the water with You.
