🐳Lessons From Jonah

Welcome to Lessons from Jonah.

What began as a simple study of Jonah quickly became something much more.

As I followed Jonah's journey, I found myself uncovering themes that run throughout all of Scripture—and throughout our own lives: running from God's presence, spiritual sleep, identity, storms, surrender, second chances, and the relentless pursuit of God.

Along the way, I noticed something I had never seen before:

Jonah stepped into a boat to run from the Lord.

Peter stepped out of a boat to move toward Him.

Both encountered God on the water.

Both experienced storms.

Both discovered the mercy of God.

This series is not just about a prophet and a fish. It is about what happens when we move away from God, what happens when we return, and what God does when He refuses to let us go.

Whether you are in a season of drifting, waiting, struggling, surrendering, or finding your way back home, I pray these lessons encourage you in your own walk with Christ.

The deeper I study Jonah, the more I discover connections to Peter, Joseph, the Prodigal Son, Paul, David, and countless others throughout Scripture.

For that reason, this page will continue to grow as new lessons emerge.

After all, I thought I was studying Jonah.

Instead, I found myself.

The Sun Always Rises

Since the start of creation, we are ever moving in a perpetual motion or cycle of “darkness to light.” In Genesis 1, the earth began in darkness, but then there was light. This progression will continue until we as believers are no longer walking in darkness but only in light. Proverbs 4:18 states “But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, that shines ever brighter unto the perfect day.” Oh, what a glorious day! In the beginning, God created our beautiful earth from deep waters and infinite darkness. Light was created at His command, and the separation of light and darkness in the earth began. “And God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day.” (Genesis 1:5) So, in the beginning, the days on earth began evening to daytime, from darkness to light. The Story of My Life with Heart Failure: The Beginning

Before you read the full story, I wanted to share this piece of my heart face-to-face. This journey has changed me in ways I’m still learning to explain. But through every wave, God has remained faithful. 🎥 Watch the short video here . On Thursday, January 22, 2026, I flew home from a business trip to Dallas. By 11 PM, I was finally back in Thomasville, Georgia, exhausted but grateful to be home. Less than 24 hours later, my life changed forever. On Friday afternoon, after what I thought would be a somewhat routine echocardiogram, I was admitted directly into the hospital. I can still hear the cardiologist’s words,  “You are at risk for sudden cardiac death.”  Nothing prepares you for hearing words like that. Nothing.
